The following is a transcript of a post by former athlete and current lifestyle entrepreneur, high performance business coach, author and podcaster Lewis Howes from his School of Greatness podcast, You can listen to the short podcast at the end of this post if you wish.
The podcast discusses several themes outlined in several books that are found in my Books Club, including ‘Black Box Thinking‘ by Matthew Syed, ‘Grit’ by Angela Duckworth, ‘The Talent Code’ by Daniel Coyle and ‘Daring Greatly’ by Brené Brown.
Have you ever found yourself wishing that someone would just offer you the perfect opportunity or amount of money or job and then everything would be great?
Wouldn’t it be nice if someone just handed you all these things and then life would be so easy and painless. And that is the way life should be right? We should have everything just handed to us and life would be great right?
Of course not! That is not how life works!
And there is a reason for that.
If we don’t experience the adversity and challenges and pain and disappointment and struggle then we do not grow as human beings.
The most successful people in the world were not handed success. They learned skills. They developed talent. They created value. They increased their mind’s capacity. And experienced failure after failure.
In fact, the only way to succeed is through the journey of a million failures.
Think about it. From the moment you were born, you must go through challenges and pain to learn and grow in order to succeed and get to the next level. You must fail to get better. You must try in order to triumph.
This failure is simply feedback to teach you something that you need to learn to master something new in order to grow. Growth is moving you forward, one step at a time, on the path to making your dreams come true. But your dream will never happen without millions of failures of all types and sizes, on a consistent basis.
That growth is what creates value. Value for yourself and value for the world. It’s what creates perspective and wisdom. It’s what creates gratitude and grace.
You are the only person who can give yourself the perfect opportunity you want. The more money you want. The job you want. The body you want. The relationship you want. The life you want.
But you must be willing to go through all the lessons along the way to make it happen.
It is never going to fall into your lap without consistent growth. And if it does fall in your lap then, trust me, you better surround yourself with people to support you or you will be back to square one.
This is your life!
Get clear on your dreams. Do the work every single day. Build yourself into that force of unlimited value for the world. Develop skills. Face your fears and master them. Own your insecurities. Be confident in your abilities. You have all the wisdom and intuition you need to start our journey and make it happen.
Trust the process of your life because you are the one!
You were born with this incredible gift. It’s your opportunity to go learn and fail. And learn and fail. Over and over again to get you where you need to be.
You have got all the skills. It’s is just time to master them.
You’ve got all the wisdom. It’s just time to learn to harness it and use it for good.
It takes time to develop yourself into a valuable machine that gives to the world so that you can create the life of your dreams.
Share this with your friends and let them know that they are the ones as well.
Go do something great!
