Decision vs Reaction: True power comes from the ability to decide rather than react

It is the true power of the human being to decide and not react. When you have no decision making power you are forced to react based on your environment and instinct. Learn how to decide before you react and your mind will thank you. The mind is the most powerful weapon in your arsenal.

We’ve all been there. We comment or Like or share something on Instagram or Facebook or Twitter and someone starts having a go at you, trolling you. Most of the the time I try to practice radical honesty. I say what I am think and do not worry about the other person not being able to deal with it because I’d rather have an open and honest conversation than to be deceitful and dishonest. Sometimes these conversations can start off very respectfully and both parties provide data to back up their claims.

At a certain point, if it is not from the get go, these conversations can become accusatory and stop being respectful and descend into ‘haterville’. It does not matter what either person says, the other person is going to argue with it. This is often when people stop listening and rely on blind faith for their convictions. This is when righteous anger creeps in. That is when you become powerless.

True power comes from the ability to decide rather than react. This is the most human trait on the planet. No other class of animal has the developed cerebral cortex that allows us to overrule our chimp, less evolved, brain.

Other species have limited decisions making abilities. They react based on instincts to the wind, the rain, the weather. Human’s have the unique ability to override their instincts with their decisions.

Especially in times like these where there is distention, there is disagreement, there is debate on what is truly going on in the world. Most of the times, people are going to have different opinions but especially now. People who were previously seen to be rational are coming up with conspiracy theories and ides about global hoaxes.

It is at times like these it is important to remember what a gift it is to override your instincts with your decisions. To wake up in the morning with full and total control over what you choose to think about and what you choose to do.#

If nothing else in your life, you have the ability to be grateful for your decision making power. You have the ability to practice emotional agility. You have the ability to be grateful for the mechanism within our human psychology that can override our instinct and replace them with higher level thinking.

What a gift that is. It is not something to take for granted. Yet, we hardly mention it. We do not talk about it. Typically, we are prone to look at what we do not have without looking at one of the greatest gifts of all time; sitting on top of the evolutionary tree.

You have everything you need to achieve your goals. You do not need to really on outside power. You have the power of emotional agility and high thinking. Really on the inner ability to steward yourself and your thoughts wisely.

You need to decide what is information and what is distraction and navigate forward.

Your optimally,
Scott
